LONG TRIALS PLANNED THIS WEEK

This morning's DLN reported that a major trial will commence in Judge Phyllis R. Streitel's courtroom, but that's not the only long jury trial that will take place in Common Pleas Court this week...

Charlestae A. Taggart is facing Robbery, Kidnapping, Aggravated Indecent Assault, Simple Assualt, Burglary, and related charges following an April 2006 incident filed by PSP/Embreeville. That trial, to be heard in front of Judge Howard F. Riley, Jr. is expected to last at least 3-to-4 days and expected to feature as many as 10 witnesses by the Commonwealth (CP-15-CR-0002372-2006).

The case Judge Streitel will preside over is Commonwealth vs. Mark Ethan McFall (CP-15-CR-0005731-2005; CP-15-CR-0001117-2006; CP-15-CR-0001530-2006; and CP-15-CR-0003148-2006), four cases in which McFall is accused of rape, indecent assault, and related offenses.

So, what does this all mean? It means that more than likely, the remainder of the cases scheduled in front of Judge Riley - who is in the second week of this Rotation I list - and Judge Streitel - who is in the first week of her two-week Criminal Term - will be heard before another judge. Typically, most cases are plea agreements which would take 5-to-10 minutes or so (depending on the judge), so at least one or possibly both of the criminal lists would likely be heard by another judge. Since Judge Anthony A. Sarcione has a Miscellaneous Docket this week, I wouldn't be shocked if he took some of the plea agreements from the Judge Riley and/or Judge Streitel's lists (this routinely happens when such a case occurs).

At the very least, it will give me an opportunity to catch up on some case file reviews so I can stop procrastinating and get some recaps posted...
