ASSAULT NEAR THE COLLEGE

At around 02:10, WCPD, GFAC, and Medic 91 were dispatched to South High and Sharpless Streets near the WCU campus for a report of an assault with injuries. The initial flash indicated two subjects in their 20's - one white male and one black male, both of whom were reportedly not wearing shirts - assaulted the victim and fled south on High Street towards Nields Street. A few minutes later, Ofc. David Hammond and Ofc. Greg Cugino made contact with two subjects who matched the flash of the actors. They were arrested and taken into custody.

According to court records, the suspects were identified as James A. Lewis, 21, of Boothwyn, Delaware County and Shakoor Rafiq Nickens, 21, of Wilmington, Delaware. Lewis faces one count each of Simple Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and Public Drunkeness (15-1-01, CR-0000218-07); Nickens faces three counts each of Simple Assault and Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and one count each of Possession of Drug Paraphanalia and Public Drunkeness (15-1-01, CR-0000219-07). Both men are free on $5,000 unsecured bail and scheduled for preliminary hearings on August 21.

About an hour later, WCFD responded to the Seven Oaks Apartments North Building on East Marshall Street for was was initially reported as smoke in the building. After an investigation, Assistant Chief Bill Ronayne (First West Chester Fire Company) informed Chester County Fire Radio that someone had maliciously set off the fire extinguishers and released all crews. This is the second time such an incident has occured at Seven Oaks in the past few months...

Other than that, it was just the routine bar-related nuisance calls, except for one particular call at around 01:00 in which Ofc. Pam McClaren was dispatched to the report of a verbal dispute on the 700 block of Price Street. According to the report given over the air by Disp. David March, one of the subjects was complaining that it was too cold, while the other complained it was too hot. And they needed the police to mediate this particular issue? Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed, no one was arrested, and everyone enjoyed a peaceful remainder of the night - I would hope...
