WEST SIDE CRIMINAL DAY - 7/03/2007

Only six cases and an arraignment of a fugitive whose crime occured 5 years ago made for a very short docket at 15-1-01 this morning...

The highlight of the day was the arraignment of Muhammed Husain Abdul-Wakil, 23, of the Elkins Park section of Cheltenham, Montgomery County. Wakil is presently a guest of the Montgomery County taxpayers on charges of Forgery, Theft by Deception, and Criminal Attempt of Theft on a case out of Jenkintown (CP-46-CR-0002862-2007).

In the West Chester case, Wakil is accused of entering a business on the 50 block of East Market Street on June 6, 2002 at around 13:50. According to the criminal complaint, P/O (now Cpl.) Henry Hague responded to the location after a report of a theft of an unknown amount of money from purses belonging to three employees. One of the employees observed a black male, alleged to be Wakil, going through one of the purses. That employee asked Wakil what company he worked for and requested literature about said company, to which he refused.

It was later determined that Wakil was working for a marketing firm and was in town on behalf of a hair salon on the 200 block of West Market Street. The company was then notified and identified Wakil as an employee who was in the area at the time of the incident.

Cpl. (now Sgt.) James Morehead, working out of the detective squad at the time, requested that Wakil appear at the station for an interview, which he did on June 18, 2002. According to the complaint, Wakil allegedly confessed that he had taken the money and had promised to make restitution within 90 days, yet failed to do so. On September 16, 2003, the criminal complaint was filed at 15-1-01, with a warrant issued on October 17, 2003. (15-1-01, CR-0000527-03; CP-15-CR-0005772-2003)

Wakil had subsequently eluded police until his arrest in Jenkintown on April 11, 2007; the Jenkintown case lists an incident date of August 16, 2006. Wakil remains in custody at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

The rest of the docket consisted of two waivers, two continuances, a withdrawl of drug charges after complying with a summary agreement, and a bench warrant issued in a DUI case.

Jacqueline G. McGlynn, 51, of Wallingford, Delaware County, had been arrested for DUI on May 25 following a traffic stop by P/O David Hammond. McGlynn failed to appear for her hearing this morning, and as such, Judge Bruno issued a bench warrant for her arrest (15-1-01, CR-0000152-07)

And that wrapped up a very slow day at 15-1-01...
