Things were back to normal at 15-1-01 for yesterday's Criminal Day in that there were no preliminary hearings held; of the 13 cases originally listed, 2 were continued prior to court, 4 defendants waived their preliminary hearings, 6 were continued in open court, and one was nolle prossed due to the death of a defendant. Two additional cases were added on, but they were continued as well. One of the waivers was an ARD application on a DUI case, the remaining three were "wizzinator" waivers on cases filed by Chester County Detectives. Other than a pair of 1543-B (Driving Under Suspension/DUI-Related) hearings (one defendant failed to appear and had a warrant issued for his arrest; the other defendant saw the charges reduced to a 1543-A - Driving Under Suspension/Non-DUI related), that was about it...
The previous night, during the on-call coverage at 15-1-01, only one defendant was brought in for arraignment. Deborah E. Hoffman, 38, of Downingtown was arrested by West Whiteland Police and charged with three counts of Forgery, one count of Tampering With Records, Identity Theft, four drug related charges, Procuring Drugs by Forgery, and Procuring Drugs by False Statement. Bail was set at $10,000 cash and Hoffman was ordered to undergo a drug & alcohol evaluation before being released from CCP. Her preliminary hearing in that case was set for next Tuesday in Exton District Court in front of Judge Larry Smith (15-4-03, CR-0000355-07).
Hoffman had been released from CCP on bail on similar charges in Lionville District Court. Upper Uwchlan Police charged her with four drug related counts, Theft By Deception, and Identity Theft. Hoffman had an appearance today in front of Judge Stanley Scott and saw bail in that case revoked and re-set at $25,000 (15-2-07, CR-0000142-07).
Hoffman also has a pending case in Thorndale District Court; Caln police charged her with Theft By Deception and Recieving Stolen Property. Her preliminary hearing in that case is scheduled for October 8 in front of Judge James Charley (15-4-02, CR-0000177-07).
On April 19, Hoffman was arrested by Upper Uwchlan Police on charges of Theft by Unlawful Taking, Theft by Deception, Recieving Stolen Property, Identity Theft, and Tampering with Records by Writing. She was held for trial on those counts by Judge Scott on June 19; she is awaiting trial in Common Pleas Court in front of Judge James P. MacElree II (15-2-07, CR-0000072-07; CP-15-CR-0002516-2007).
Judge Bruno is back on call this weekend, which if nothing else, means that his staff will probably be racking up the overtime pay this month...
