A FEW MORE ODDS AND ENDS...

After being out of service for several months, the 01-25 "slick-top" patrol car returned to service. The 01-25 had sustained major damage after an accident at Chestnut and Darlington Streets in February...

The stabbing on North Wayne Street wasn't really a stabbing after all. Despite initial reports to WCPD and Chester County 9-1-1, the incident turned out to be a physical disturbance. Still, WCPD reportedly was able to locate the victim and an investigation is ongoing...

Now, I realize that lawyers may, at times, be stuck with defendants who aren't exactly model citizens. But this may be a little ridiculous. Attorney Thomas A. Pitt, Jr., who represented the late Christian M. Oliveras, made this intersting comment about his client in Tuesday's Inquirer:

"He sold drugs, but he was a nice kid. ... I was impressed with how respectful and mannerly he was."

Oh. He sold drugs, but was a nice kid? Um, Counselor, I would think that's a bit of an oxymoron. Considering that the Ink-waster reported that Oliveras was about to enter a guilty plea that would have given him a 5-to-10 years stint in a state prison, I wouldn't exactly call him a "nice kid." No amount of spin could make him a "nice kid."

The first set of charges were apparently related to a June 2006 drive-by shooting at Adams and Union Streets, in which detectives found drugs and a firearm, however, Chester County ADA Andrew Rongaus told the Ink-waster the firearm recovered was not linked to the shooting. (Attempts to locate the case file as of Monday were unsuccessful as it had already been set aside for Judge Strietel's trial term set to start on Monday.)

The second set of charges were related to the State Police undercover sting that has been described here in detail.

One final thought: it was rather odd that Channel 3 and Channel 6 videotaped a lot of footage of the crime scene investiation early Monday morning, yet the only footage that made it on the air was about 15 seconds on Channel 3, which showed shots of a parked patrol car, P/O Stuart Smith securing the scene, and a second shot of a parked patrol car in that order. Channel 6 used exactly ZERO seconds of footage from the scene. Guess Channel 6 didn't think a homicide in West Chester was newsworthy.
