WEST SIDE CRIMINAL DAY - 6/05/07

Only one hearing highlighted today's Criminal Day at District Court 15-1-01, though that's not to say it was boring...

In the matter of Commonwealth vs. Alexis Acevedo (CR-0000133-07), an undercover police officer with the Chester County Municipal Drug Task Force testified that, at around 17:36 on November 13, 2006, Acevedo, 28, of Philadelphia, allegedly sold him an "8-ball" of cocaine for $125.00 on the 200 block of Wollerton Alley. After submitting the evidence to the State Police labs at Lima, the substance tested positive for cocaine. Defense counsel attempted to get the charges dismissed citing issues with the chain of evidence. His arguements proved unsuccessful, as Acevedo was held for trial on Possession with Intent to Deliver, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphanalia. He was re-committed to Chester County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bail.

Also heard today was the matter of Commonwealth vs. Christopher Quintana (CR-0000117-07). In this particular case, P/O Christopher Daly charged the defendant with Recieving Stolen Property, Driving an Unregistered Vehicle, Operating Without Required Financial Responsibility (insurance), and Displaying a Plate Card in an Improper Vehicle. In a plea deal, Quintana pled guilty to a summary charge of Disorderly Conduct and was sentenced to time served in lieu of a nearly $300.00 fine. Quintana is already scheduled to stand trial for aggravated assault and related offenses relating to an April arrest on aggravated assault and related offenses (CP-15-CR-0001809-2007) and remains held at Chester County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.

In another case, Oscar Palomares Arellano, 32, of West Chester, faced charges of Recieving Stolen Property and Possession of Drug Paraphanalia in an incident from Feburary 25 filed by Cpl. Josh Lee. He had been given an opportunity to see those charges reduced to a summary offense, however he apparently failed to appear for his court date and was not complying with the conditions of his bail agreement. As a result, his charges were authomatically waived to the Court of Common Pleas (CR-0000069-07).

Of the remaining 13 hearings scheduled on the today's list, 6 defendants waived their hearings, 6 cases were continued, and one defendant saw his charges reduced to a summary offense.
